A social license to operate for mines
The new Minerals Act has put to rest whether a mine undertakes CSI or not. It is law, it has to be done. The question is whether we are doing it cost-effectively?
Our Single-minded Purpose is to show our clients that through social entrepreneurship, CSI should not be an expense, but a bankable investment.
We know poverty is endemic in South Africa. We all know that income inequality is the proverbial home build on shaky foundations. We also know we have to do something about this.
Doing something about it calls for a set of values that are different. Social entrepreneurs are people who care about the environment, society and being economically sustainable. Our values are about getting things done, but respectfully.
We therefore value courage, over-delivery and respectfulness. The people who work for us are all social entrepreneurs, people who identify viable business opportunities and make communities their partners.

Inspired by the sustainable development movement and indices such as FTSE4Good, Metago Strategy4Good was founded with a view to assist with the convergence between good Corporate Citizenship and Sustainable Development. Having seen the many failures in social enterprise development in South Africa, Gerrie Muller, an investment banker and strategy consultant by training, decided that things can be done differently. Having researched the failure phenomenon, Gerrie realised that Social Entrepreneurship, a well known initiative in the Northern Hemisphere, can be customized and successfully adopted for the South African community. In doing so, enterprise viability can be improved considerably. |

Social Entrepreneurship
We find feasible social enterprises for mines in their labour areas and manage them from inception to growth. We take on the whole process: strategy, finance, people, marketing and technology. We invented a unique model to overcome systemic risks and nurture these enterprises to success.
Social and Labour Plans
We develop pragmatic SLPs for mines and work with our clients and the DME until it is approved.
Social and Economic Impact Assessments
We assist mines to become welcome corporate citizens in their labour areas through cost-effective social sustainability strategies.
